Amy Earles

Great work by Amy Earles! Her ability to combine folk traditions with contemporary aesthetics is especially visible in her articulated doll illustrations; the tactility of the work provides just enough kitsch and craft to bring to mind old art forms while the dynamic compositions and sophisticated color choice keep them distinctly modern. I also find they way Amy draws her characters to be incredibly appealing, as they seem sweet and girly, yet somehow very mysterious and potentially unapproachable. Take a look at her website if you can - she has loads of work there, including more paper dolls going back to 2007, plus some really lovely pencil work.

I absolutely adore her work. I agree her pencil work is really lovely, but her articulated paper dolls are my favorite.
